From a recent article in the NY Post entitled "They Like to Watch":
"Hands down: Peter Gallagher is the coolest dad on television. [...] Nicole and Adam Levine, who have a 15-month-old baby girl, can't get enough of The O.C., either. They watch it after they put their baby to sleep. [...] Plus, Nicole adds, they pick up helpful parenting tips. 'Peter Gallagher is so well-suited, creative and fun as the dad,' she raves. 'I think he shows a very healthy, paternal way of acting towards his sons. It's a really loving family. They have everyday challenges. He's really a cool dad. He doesn't take s---. He's a wonderful character, and is much more well rounded than other fathers on TV.' "

January 2004
As we've mentioned, The O.C. (and Peter!) received some critical raves in those Best of 2003 lists:
From Ken Tucker of Entertainment Weekly:
The O.C. (Fox) The first batch of episodes crossed ''Beverly Hills, 90210'' with ''Dynasty'' and a smidgen of ''Rebel Without a Cause'' supplied by the sullen stare of Benjamin McKenzie. Every hour seemed to culminate in a party or a fistfight. Since returning in October, the series has found, oh, not depth certainly, but expansive pleasure in turning Adam Brody's comic-book geek into television's most unlikely, articulate sex symbol and plunking him into one of the small screen's most entertaining love triangles. It helps that Peter Gallagher and Kelly Rowan are superbly convincing as an upscale married couple.
From Heather Havrilesky of Salon.com:
"Freaks & Geeks" + "90210" - Tori Spelling + "Thirtysomething" - abject misery = "The O.C.," easily the most satisfying, surprising, delicious morsel to arise out of a uniformly disappointing season of television. In fact, "The O.C." aired during the summer, building a small audience but leaving most of us out of the loop, so caught up were we in our cheap fix of "Paradise." The cast is instantly lovable, the stories are oddly appealing, the settings are shiny and absurd, the dialogue is sharp and witty -- in short, this show is too good not to sound bad when you try to describe it. From Adam Brody's bizarre quips to Peter Gallagher's charms, this is the rare soap that, instead of leaving you hanging, puts you in a great mood. Here's hoping this little pocket of California sunshine stays around for a long, long time.
From Dave McCoy at MSN.com:
4. The O.C. (FOX)
Easily the most fun and entertaining new show of the year is the same one I mocked when I first saw the ads during the World Series. Not another "Melrose Place"/"90210"-esque examination of the rich and brainless, I thought. Well, actually, nope, it's not that at all. "The O.C." has writers who actually know how to write! Characters are three-dimensional and the show had you loving them by the second episode. And unlike those soap operas that took themselves SO seriously, "The O.C." knows its genre and lovingly, with tongue firmly in cheek, adores mocking itself and its characters. Though labeled as a teen drama, there are more laughs to be found in this show than 90 percent of so-called sitcoms. The majority of those laughs come from patriarch, Sandy Cohen, played by Peter Gallagher in a role that finally showcases his talents, or his wise-ass, quick-witted son, Seth (the irreverent Adam Brody). This is a show that respects its audience's intelligence, and in return we'll follow it anywhere.
TV Alert - Peter will be on The Sharon Osborne Show on Wednesday, January 14th - "Peter Gallagher makes a visit from The O.C. and gets a major surprise from Sharon," according to the press blurb. For local showtimes on the WB, visit the show website: http://sharon.warnerbros.com/
